“ The race decides the winner. ”
True words.

I want a LeMans class of bone stock (okay, remove airbags, add racing seat, data logger, harness, fire suppression, etc) street cars. Homologation specials, except 50k units a year is the minimum to race.
Wait a second, I think I just invented DTM.

I vote 150k units. only popular cars get to race.
We’ll call it Crossover Calamity !

You just invented GT4, which would get boring over that long of a distance.

I think you misunderstood, less Ford vs. Ferrari, more Accord vs. Camry.
Oh, also, factory tires. Should get interesting after hour two.

Nah, DTM runs a spec chassis IIRC. You invented Trans Am racing, more or less .

Oh god, the noise. 24 hours of squealing tires

I was actually thinking of BTCC.

If I wanted to watch traffic I’d just look out the window. This would be horrendously boring.

DTM, GT4 and BTCC are based on road cars but are heavily modified .
If you want to race road cars with just safety mods and limited to a few bolt-ons such as the exhaust, i ntake or a gearbox (but the engine internals cannot be modified) , you have the FIA g roup N.

Most circuit racing is already boring. The most exciting racing I’ve even watched was SCCA BSpec, which is essentially street cars on a circuit.

Peugeot 905 is about my most favorite Group-c design I’ve ever seen. So much downforce.

I love B-spec (honestly I’d love to buy a B-spec Mazda2) but it’d get boring on a big track like LeMans. SCCA Spec Miata is a blast to watch on smaller circuits, but watching them pack draft down the Mulsanne would be tedious.

Forgot to mention but in Europe there are many series of cheap and low powered car in stock form like the Twin’cup (Twingo 1) :
Many 2CV series including multiple 24h races that are usually along Citroë n C1 :
You also have cheap factory racecars like the 20 8 Cup, they still haven’t launched the new one based on the new generation but it was less than 25k€ for a fully homologated factory racecar :
Or the brand new Clio Cup for 38k€ (the Clio RX and the Clio Rally are almost the same price ) for example :
